The Zero Waste Movement

The Zero Waste Movement

There is a serious epidemic in our world today and it is caused by the amount of plastic we create and consume, and hence, how much we throw away. North America is a world leader in creating garbage with an average of 4.4 lbs of trash created per person, per day. Our shorelines are lined with garbage, there are islands of floating plastic lost at sea, and statistically speaking, we are creating ten times more trash a day than we did a century ago. Of course, there are more people on earth right now than a century ago so more trash is inevitable, but it is this fact alone that has spurred us as a brand to be as minimal as possible with our output.

The Zero Waste movement was born out of this fact entirely: a desire to slow down the global consequences of too much waste output, and to try and incorporate a minimalist lifestyle. It’s the simple and obvious things such as creating solid shampoos and conditioners which don’t need plastic containers to be held in are just one example of the simple changes each one of us can make. It is impossible to avoid all packaging but so much of how our products are delivered to us are in excess of what is really needed. It isn’t healthy for the earth and consequently, for us.

We are also passionate about limiting the exposure that we as individuals experience to chemicals in all the products that we use. Going back to basics is an approach we believe in because we forget that before our lifestyle of disposable products, plastics and ultimately convenience, things were different. Vinegar and water to clean windows and your house were far healthier for you and for the environment than the multitude of chemical products that line your grocery store shelves today.

We believe in recycling, we believe in being biodegradable, we believe in limiting plastic use as much as possible. It may seem difficult to begin such a lifestyle and to run a company this way, but as soon as you commit to this movement, you begin to get creative and you start to see just how much of what we do daily is supremely wasteful. It is hard and impossible to have zero effects on the environment from our daily lives; we still drive cars, we use electricity in our homes with comes from the extraction and consumption of natural resources, or the ingredients for our products are sold to us in plastic bags. But, we make a valiant effort to minimize the effect of our daily lives simply because, it is right.
